![]() If any of these were absent, a lot of people wouldn’t even know what was wrong with what they were watching, but it would just feel empty. Harry101UK pours through libraries of sounds and makes the silent void of an SFM vibrant the crunches of footsteps, the creaking of the barn as it gets destroyed, the whir of the projector. Incidentally, this also implies that at some point in history, someone was desperately wracking their brain, trying to figure out how to make sound effects while cooking breakfast. For example, in a lot of hollywood movies, the sound of rain in the background is actually the sound of bacon sizzling. Using the “correct” sounds are often surprisingly unsatisfying to the audience. Often, sound designers have to get creative. Harry101UK’s job was to find sounds for all the things that happen in the SFM, synchronize them accurately, and weave them carefully into the background of the movie. When a sound designer does his job well, the audience most likely won’t notice it at all. Harry101UK did the sound design, which is typically an under appreciated art. “I feel as though body language is important, it can sometimes say more than words” Slipping into Uncanny Valley (a term used for when things look almost right, but are just wrong enough that the final result is oddly creepy to look at) is a common pitfall, but CobaltGemini deftly steers characters we know and love through that valley and out the other side. “You try to keep things true to the character rather than true to yourself” Slowly, CobaltGemini grafts movement onto them, making the Demoman sit with his shoulders and arms at just the right angle to show his annoyance with the the dreadful 3D glasses, or making the interaction between the Heavy and Medic fit the characters, but subtle enough that it doesn’t scream “I AM EMOTING AND ACTING, ALL AT ONCE” at you. It takes many painstaking hours, starting with lifeless bodies and the vaguest of sketches of how the models might be placed in the environment. The art of animation is not for the faint of heart. The animation was primarily done by CobaltGemini, who takes stiff and somewhat clunky computer generated models and gently breathes life into them. “At that point it was just ‘we need something alien themed’.and that was it” ![]() CobaltGemini, the SFM lead, was introduced to Ronin along with the rest of the Lil’ Guardian Pyro team and Ronin was happy to give the team full creative freedom. In actuality, It took 6 people several months to create the final SFM short that announced Invasion. If I told you to create 3 minutes of high quality SFM - and I mean, good, cutting edge SFM animation here - how long would you guess it would take? A week? Two weeks? Four minutes? Twelve lightyears? One hundred and eighty! I’m just shouting numbers now. If you have seen it, then take a look at the Visual Effects Breakdown by Harry101 below If you have yet to watch the Great work done by the SFM team, head over to the official landing page for the update and watch it for yourself. The 30 second teaser became a 3 minute trailer-style short movie with an in-movie movie, custom made props and particle effects, and even its own original score.īut this vast expansion of the project meant the short took significantly longer than originally expected, and the Cosmetic Conquest Contest - with a hard, pre-established date - was launched without the short and the movie was instead saved for the launch of the update. The SFM team blew everyone away, offering a short movie that had a scope far beyond what had been originally planned. Originally, the movie was supposed to generate interest in the mapping contest by being released before said contest. When Bang! came onboard with the project he introduced Ronin to the Lil’ pyro team, who created the short for Invasion. ![]() Need an explanation of the costs? The decluttering quotes below I consider “tough love” quotes. Well, I have those days, and when I do, I feel that I sometimes need a jolt to drag myself out of the dumps and get reenergized. And yet, MH has done the unthinkable and is constantly rewarding me with new things that actually compel me to continue playing. This is the main reason why I haven’t got the Platinum trophy for Spider-Man Miles Morales - I can’t stomach going through the game on NG+ despite having every single trophy aside from that. If there are side quests I do my best to complete all of them before I beat the game however, once I see the credits roll I have no desire to go back and play more. I was thinking about it yesterday - MH: Rise might be the first game in probably a decade (maybe longer) that I’ve played repeatedly for the sheer fun of it. The gameplay loop is so addicting, and respects your time because you get as much out of it as you put in. I’m currently 80 hours in, just reached HR40, about to hunt one of the Elder Lords in Sunbreak, and the game continues to surprise me, particularly with new monsters. I’ll also be progressing more in Monster Hunter Rise / Sunbreak. I already know there will be twists and turns and I’m excited to discover them. The combat arts and talents is very much improved, and the animations are really cool. The characters so far are relatable and there is a certain scene early on that really resonates with me. I’m currently two hours in and I’ve already gotten misty eyed. These games know how to balance quirky anime tropes and heartfelt moments in ways most games are unable to. This franchise might be my favorite as far as JRPGs go. My main course this weekend is Xenoblade Chronicles 3. And that just makes me not want to bother with it at all. With Multiversus, the rewards for playing/winning matches are so stingey, you can’t miss a single days challenges or you won’t be able to complete the Battle pass. The thing is, I also play Fortnite and I just don’t have the time to invest in two live service games at once.Īt least with Fortnite you can miss a few weeks and still complete the Battle pass. I don’t think I’ll be buying the next Battle pass unless they fix the progression and make it easier to level up. I’ll try to complete this pre-season Battle pass but I think I’ll be sick of the game by the time the first season starts proper. The grind is just too much and it feels like a real chore to level up. But I’ve had enough long before the daily challenges are complete. I’ve been playing the game every day trying to complete the daily challenges and I enjoy the first few matches. I really like the game but I’m not sure it’s suited to having a Battle pass. ![]() With the help of these tools, you can easily design your website. Or your using conventional farming which uses petroleum-based products made by large chemical companies, and possibly recycled bomb material from war. We do not believe these things should be considered organic, because of what the animals are being fed, because of the antibiotics, and because of the mistreatment of the animals. ![]() When you’re talking about bone meal and blood meal we’re talking about animals that have been grown in less-than-ideal conditions and when they process them for the table they use the leftover blood bones and feathers to create what they call organic fertilizers. What’s actually in the fertilizer that you buy at the store? Nature’s pretty perfect if we can just find the balance. If we want to think sustainable we need to think about what we’re putting into the ground to grow our food, how it’s going to affect the ground in the future, how nutritious it’s going to be, what we have for resources already present without having to pillage other resources and to constantly look for new inputs. At the decimation of our land, forests, and the labor of children. Many fertilizers such as seabird guano, bat guano, fish meal… are less than ethically sourced and produced. Your plants get more nutrients from the compost you make than fertilizer you buy at the store. Keeping your food scraps and green waste out of the dump can be your contribution to ending global warming and we believe this will help you be a better steward to the planet. You can grow incredible veggies utilizing what would normally be waste for you! Like green waste from your yard, leftover scraps from your kitchen, cardboard, paper… Keep it out of the dump – turn it into soil. A major one is that you can turn waste into fertilizer to build living soil. There are a ton of benefits to making your own compost rather than going to a garden store and buying fertilizer. Mindset Shift #3: You Can GROW Your Own Fertilizer You’re basically eating sh!t… Not to mention the amount of methane released into our atmosphere through large municipal composting operations, which is contributing to climate change, and has many other ecological impacts. They’re claiming that because it reaches high temperatures and sterilizes itself that it can be used to grow organic food. ![]() But what you really need to know – what are they using for their nitrogen source? More times than not, and I would confidently say, in MOST waste management facilities, they’re processing the green waste with porta potty material and excess sewer sludge. Now a lot of people are confused and think it’s awesome to get all that material back from the landfill as compost - often given to the neighborhoods for free. Why send all of your paper towels, scrap paper, cardboard… to the dump when it can be building soil for your garden? Instead of wasting it by collecting it in those big “green waste” bags, and leaving them on the curb every week… you can utilize it as awesome green material for composting and building soil! Stuff that would normally be wasted and go to the landfill, like leaves, grass clippings, weeds… Many people call that “green waste.” We call it green waste because you’re wasting it. Mindset Shift #2: Stop Wasting Your Waste With living cold composting techniques, that utilize the symbiosis of many creatures, you will create consistent and reliable living compost that gives you the freedom to seed your garden with insanely productive microbes & never have to buy fertilizer again. ![]() It is often devoid of the biological activity that you need to grow healthy living soil! That sort of compost really needs to be re-inoculated with life before using in your garden Usually in a situation like that they move back in from the cooler parts of the pile eventually, but it’s not uncommon for compost facilities to get compost straight out of the hot pocket, which is inert. Thermophillic compost gets hot enough to actually kill all the soil microbes in it. When the atmosphere is in balance, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. You’ll no longer have to rely on your hardware or garden store, and the quality of the products they stock their shelves with (did you know that your “organic” fertilizer can be filled with manure from chicken factory farms?Īnd that most city compost programs are thermophillic, which is the chemical reaction type of compost that usually heats up as high as 160☏! It also produces quite a bit of methane and other gases into the atmosphere. Building your own soil puts you in complete control of your garden. ![]() Richard Stiehm, MD 33 Robert W. Juveniles left the parental breeding area at the end of their first summer and performed wandering movements throughout the Iberian Peninsula, returning to the parental breeding area the following year, repeating the same pattern until they settled in their first breeding area. Between 20, 44 juvenile red kites (Milvus milvus) from the Spanish breeding population were tagged using GPS telemetry to study their dispersal. The juvenile dispersal of raptors is a crucial stage that stretches from parental independence to the establishment of the first breeding area. These data indicate that over‐winter conservation action for kites, for example supplementary feeding with livestock carrion, should focus on open lowland landscapes throughout the species' winter range. Our results confirm that land use and elevation are key influences of kite space use in southwestern European over‐wintering populations, but additional demographic intrinsic factors also affect ranging parameters. Six of 13 confirmed deaths were due to anthropogenic activity 5 kites were poisoned. During the study 20 kites died or the transmitter malfunctioned. Older kites that arrived late to the wintering areas had larger home ranges than those that arrived early or on time. As predicted, ranges were smaller in areas with greater proportional open and lowland land cover however, there was no effect of urban areas. Kites wintering in the Pyrenees had larger home ranges and core areas but moved less than those wintering in Italy and the Iberian Peninsula. We tracked 36 kites by global positioning system‐global system for mobile communications (GPS‐GSM) telemetry over 70 individual winters between 20. ![]() Controlling for the effects of age and sex, we compared results in 3 over‐wintering regions: the Iberian Peninsula, Italy, and the Pyrenean region of southern France. Specifically, we tested whether winter range sizes (95% kernel density estimator home ranges and 50% KDE core areas) would be smaller in areas with greater proportional open and urban land cover within kite ranges. We predicted that space use in over‐wintering areas would be linked to the proportional amount of open, lowland, or urban land cover they contain at the land-scape level. We also explore aspects of the migration process in terms of geographical patterns in the location of over‐wintering grounds, including time spent and distances traveled within them. Here, we contribute to filling this knowledge gap by investigating landscape‐level associations of kites in their southwestern European winter ranges between 20. For some raptor species, such as the red kite (Milvus milvus kite), existing data focus on breeding populations or movements en route to wintering areas without considering movements within the wintering areas. Understanding intrinsic and extrinsic influences of movement behavior in migratory species, with the potential to recommend management actions for species of conservation concern, requires data from across the species' range. Refuse tips and muladares (dumps for dead livestock) and their management during the winter are important for the conservation of the species. We suggest that the use of carrion is influenced not only by its abundance but by its availability to Red Kites. farmed Rabbits Oryctolagus cuniculus, poultry Gallus sp.) in the diet were correlated with a decrease in the trophic diversity which suggested an active choice of the food, at least in years with low vole densities. High frequencies of “small” carrion (e.g. Common Voles Microtus arvalis, despite being a very abundant prey on the northern plateau, did not appear in the diet in high numbers, but their frequency was related to the proportion of land occupied by nonirrigated (cereal) crops. Red Kites showed a clear difference in diet between the two plateaux, with a higher consumption of carrion on the northern plateau and of game species on the southern plateau. The diet composition and its relationship with food abundance and habitat characteristics were studied in two areas (northern and southern plateaux) with different food availability and habitat composition. This paper presents data on the winter diet of the Red Kite Milvus milvus in the Iberian Peninsula. |
